The interwar semis along roads such as Hellesdon Road and around the Woodside estate are some of the most common properties we visit for lead work problems. These houses typically have two or three chimney stacks, and the original lead flashings - where they have not already been patched at some point - are often at or beyond the end of a serviceable life. Hard lead loses its flexibility and cracks rather than accommodating the slight movement that a chimney stack undergoes over the years.
We replace and re-dress lead to the correct BS code, cutting step flashings and counter flashings to the proper dimensions and chasing them into the mortar to a genuine depth rather than surface-bedding them with sealant.
