Bowthorpe is one of Norwich's planned residential expansions from the 1970s and 80s, and many of its concrete-tiled roofs are now old enough to warrant serious consideration of a full replacement.
Most properties in Bowthorpe were built in phases from the late 1970s onwards, using concrete interlocking tiles over felt underlay. After 40-plus years the felt is typically brittle, the ridge mortar is cracked, and the tiles themselves may have lost surface treatment and begun to absorb water. A patch-and-repair approach at that stage rarely makes sense economically.
